Red Hot Chili Peppers, 'New Dynamic' -- 2011 New Album Preview

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have almost finished work on 'New Dynamic,' the group's tenth studio album and long-awaited follow-up to 2006's 'Stadium Arcadium.'

Work began on the album in late 2009, when the band ended its two-year hiatus. It wasn't until the summer of 2010, however, that the Peppers finally began recording in the studio, alongside producer Rick Rubin, and with a fresh face in the lineup. New guitarist Josh Klinghoffer replaced John Frusciante in 2009 after Frusciante revealed that he decided to leave the band during the hiatus.

With Klinghoffer on board, the band set about putting together an album after a lengthy break that saw plenty of change. During the hiatus, lead singer Anthony Kiedis became a father, while bassist Flea enrolled in music theory classes at USC.

According to Kiedis, all this upheaval strongly influenced the recording process. "I think that during the writing of this record I have been the most open-minded and refreshed than I have been in a long time," Kiedis told Spin. "I guess that comes from a much-needed hiatus and becoming a father."

Flea's studies also added a new dimension to the Peppers' studio experience. "Before, some of our jams were a bit hit-and-miss," Kiedis continued. "On this record, a decent number of songs were actually thought out and planned in a way we had never done before. That is, with Flea's new knowledge of music theory, we explored the writing process with a bit more precision."

'New Dynamic,' meanwhile, is an admittedly tentative title, but it has decidedly unique origins. According to Kiedis, the group settled on the title when a friend "was reminiscing about one of his legendary acid trips, and told us that he had been playing a sold-out show to the planets and moons, and his Number One hit was, well, that title."

Lenny Kravitz, 'Come On Get It' - New Song

Lenny Kravitz has released 'Come On Get It,' the first single from his forthcoming album, 'Black and White America,' due out this summer.

'Come On Get It' is a return to form for the rock icon, relying heavily on American funk and soul. Recalling the Motown sound of the '60s and '70s, Kravitz channels James Brown's vocals with throaty screams all over slinky, Parliament-inspired horns and buzzy synths.

Using the words "come on get it" as a tag at the end of each sexually charged line, Kravitz drives the song forward with all the seriousness of a true lothario, belting such lines as: "I feel like a canine / Come on, come on and get it / Can I eat from your vine / Come on, come on and get it."

For the 2010-2011 season, the NBA and TNT have featured the song heavily in their recent TV commercials. The spots show live footage of Kravitz and his band performing on an urban basketball court with fans looking on from outside the chain-linked perimeter, and are intercut with quick shots of the NBA's biggest stars and most action-packed highlights.

Kravitz has also been tapped to perform 'Come On Get It' at the 2011 NBA All-Star game on Feb. 20. Rihanna and Josh Groban are slated to sing at the event, as well.

Kravitz's career has spanned over 20 years and several mediums, including an award-winning performance for his role in 2009's 'Precious'. He has sold over 38 million records, and amassed four Grammys. With 'Black and White America', his ninth studio album, he will venture forward with a new label deal with Roadrunner and Atlantic Records.

Radiohead, 'The King of Limbs' -- 2011 New Album Preview

Radiohead will be unveiling its eighth studio album, The King of Limbs,' this week, and as they did in 2007, the band is planning on releasing it in a decidedly unique way.

On Valentine's Day, Radiohead announced that their new full-length album will be released for download on Feb. 19 and in physical form on March 28, with an elaborately packaged "newspaper" version coming out on May 9.

Unlike in 2007, when the group allowed fans to pay any amount they wanted for 'In Rainbows,' Radiohead's new album will have a set price -- $9 for the digital version and $48 for the newspaper packaged set.

On the album's official website, the group heralded 'Limbs' as (perhaps) the world's first "newspaper album." The packaged album includes two 10" vinyl records, a CD, large pieces of artwork, and 625 smaller pieces of art -- all of which will be held within a full-color piece of "oxo-degradable" plastic. One lucky owner of the digital version will also receive an autographed, two-track 12" vinyl record, though it's not clear what music will be included on the record.

Though some may interpret this release as a sign that Radiohead has "abandoned" the "pay what you want" model, band manager Chris Hufford told NME that the strategy simply represents a "logical progression" in the group's ongoing experiment with today's shifting corporate landscape.

"Our allegiances are to the band," Hufford said. "We manage Radiohead, we don't manage retail or labels, we just manage the band and are just trying to do the best possible thing to allow another brilliant record to be embraced by the fanbase."

At this point, very little is known about what 'The King of Limbs' will actually sound like. Over the past few years, Radiohead has been particularly ambiguous when discussing the project, and has yet to even release a tracklisting for the new album.

In September, drummer Phil Selway told the Guardian that the group's new album may not even see the light of day. "We might just throw this all out," he said. "It's all up in the air."

According to NME, the band produced the record with Nigel Godrich, and recorded it in Los Angeles and at their studios in Oxford. Radiohead reportedly began writing the album in May 2009, which produced the singles 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)', and 'These Are My Twisted Words.' NME, however, says that it's "unlikely" that either of these two download-only tracks will be included on the album.

It appears, then, that most fans will have to wait until the album actually comes out to get a taste of Radiohead's latest sound. Fortunately, though, they won't have to wait long. The band is already accepting pre-orders here.

Bruno Mars, 'The Lazy Song' -- New Song

Bruno Mars is fully intent on "not doing anything" in his latest single, 'The Lazy Song.'The song features the sunny, stress-free Hawaiian sound that Mars grew up with, and is about taking time to relax. Even the instrumentation emphasizes this, with a single upbeat guitar riff, spare drumming and not much else, save for Mars' relaxed, golden crooning rising above the rhythms.The song sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a summer happy-hour meetup, though it could equally provide a sonic backdrop for any well-deserved escape from winter's doldrums. Mars sings about a daydream day spent lying around in bed, letting the phone ring, getting together with his girl for some love and strutting around naked.

The idea is, as Mars says, to "let everything hang loose," even if that first lazy day stretches into another, and another:"Yeah I might mess around / And get my college degree / I bet my old man will be so proud of me / But sorry pops, you'll just have to wait."

'The Lazy Song' is the third proper single of Mars' debut record, 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans.' Both of the record's previous singles, 'Just the Way You Are' and 'Grenade,' topped Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
